G3 Performance — Recovery

TRAINING BREAKS
YOU DOWN. RECOVERY
BUILDS YOU BACK.

You don't adapt during the session. You adapt after it. Recovery isn't the reward for training — it's the part of training where the results actually happen. We treat it with the same structure, measurement, and accountability as everything else in the building.

The Recovery System

THREE TIERS.
ONE STANDARD.

Recovery scales with what you're asking your body to absorb. Tier 1 is built into every G3 program at no additional cost — because the fundamentals aren't an upsell. Tiers 2 and 3 are for athletes and adults carrying loads that require more.

Tier 01 · Included
FOUNDATION
Every G3 performance athlete and member

The fundamentals that produce most of the result. Built into your programming from day one — not sold separately, because if these aren't in place nothing above them matters.

Included
  • Sleep audit & sleep hygiene strategy
  • Training load management within your block
  • Programmed deload weeks
  • Mobility & movement prep protocols
  • Nutrition timing around sessions
  • Hydration guidance

Delivered by your G3 performance coach as part of standard programming.

Tier 02 · Add-On
PERFORMANCE RECOVERY
In-season athletes · high training volume · tactical operators

For bodies absorbing more than the fundamentals can cover alone. Adds measurement and physical modalities so recovery becomes something we track rather than assume.

Adds
  • HRV baseline & ongoing monitoring
  • Readiness-adjusted session intensity
  • Guided soft tissue & compression work
  • Contrast therapy protocols
  • Sauna & heat exposure programming
  • Monthly recovery review

Delivered on-site by G3 coaching staff. Non-medical modalities only.

Tier 03 · Partner-Delivered
CLINICAL OPTIMIZATION
Adults pursuing longevity & clinically-guided optimization

Where performance coaching meets licensed medical care. G3 coordinates with your provider so your training and your clinical plan are aligned — but the clinical work is theirs, not ours.

Coordinated Access
  • Bloodwork & biomarker panels
  • Hormone evaluation & management
  • Advanced recovery protocols
  • Clinical nutrition consultation
  • Provider-to-coach communication
  • Training aligned to clinical guidance

Delivered by licensed independent medical providers — not by G3 Sports & Fitness coaching staff. See full disclosure below.

Modalities

WHAT WE USE.
AND WHAT IT ACTUALLY DOES.

Recovery is the most oversold category in the industry. Here's what each tool is reasonably understood to do, where the evidence is strong, and where it isn't — because knowing when not to use something is as important as knowing how.

SLEEP
Tier 1 · Highest Impact

The single most effective recovery intervention available, and the one most people neglect. Sleep is when the majority of tissue repair and hormonal regulation occurs. No modality on this page compensates for chronic short sleep.

Straight answer: if you're sleeping five hours, a cold plunge is not your problem. We fix this first.

When
Always. Audited at intake and revisited at every block review.
LOAD MANAGEMENT
Tier 1 · Programming

Recovery starts with not digging a hole you can't climb out of. Programmed deloads, sensible weekly progression, and adjusting volume when life load spikes are what keep adaptation moving forward.

Straight answer: the cheapest recovery tool is a well-written training block.

When
Built into every program. Deload typically every fourth week.
HRV MONITORING
Tier 2 · Measurement

Heart rate variability gives an objective read on how well you're absorbing training load. We use it to decide when to push and when to pull back, rather than guessing from how you feel walking in the door.

Straight answer: a single day's reading means little. The trend across weeks is the useful signal.

When
Daily morning reading via Polar H10. Reviewed weekly.
SOFT TISSUE & MOBILITY
Tier 1–2 · Physical

Foam rolling, guided stretching and targeted mobility work. Reliably improves short-term range of motion and reduces perceived soreness, which makes the next session better even where the mechanism is debated.

Straight answer: it doesn't "break up scar tissue" or realign anything. It helps you move and feel better. That's enough.

When
Pre-session for movement prep. Post-session or off-days for tissue work.
HEAT & SAUNA
Tier 2 · Physical

Regular heat exposure is associated with cardiovascular adaptations and improved perceived recovery. Also one of the more sustainable modalities because most people will actually keep doing it.

Straight answer: effects build with consistent exposure over weeks. One session is a nice feeling, not an adaptation.

When
Post-session or on off-days. Not immediately before training.
COLD EXPOSURE
Tier 2 · Timing-Critical

Effective for reducing perceived soreness and useful between same-day competition rounds or during dense in-season blocks. Timing matters more with cold than with any other modality on this list.

Straight answer: cold immediately after resistance training can blunt the strength and muscle adaptations you just trained for. If you're in a building block, we don't use it post-lift. In-season or in-competition is a different calculation. This is why it's coached rather than left to a sign-up sheet.

When
In-season, between competition efforts, or on non-lifting days. Avoided within hours of hypertrophy or strength work.
COMPRESSION
Tier 2 · Physical

Pneumatic compression and compression garments are associated with reduced perceived soreness and swelling after heavy lower-body work or long competition days. Low risk, easy to tolerate, easy to comply with.

Straight answer: the effect is mostly on how you feel rather than measurable performance. Feeling better still gets you to the next session.

When
Post-session, travel days, and heavy competition blocks.
NUTRITION & HYDRATION
Tier 1 · Foundational

Adequate total protein, sufficient calories to support the training load, and consistent hydration. Unglamorous and consistently underrated relative to everything else people spend money on.

Straight answer: under-eating is the most common recovery problem we see, and no modality fixes it.

When
Daily. Coached as general performance nutrition guidance, not clinical dietetics.
Tier 3 — Clinical Optimization

WE COACH TRAINING.
THEY PRACTICE MEDICINE.

Some optimization work sits outside what a strength and conditioning coach can or should provide. Bloodwork, hormone management and clinical protocols are medical practice — and they belong with licensed providers. What we do is make sure your training and your clinical plan aren't working against each other.
